North Malekula is famous for its history, cannibalism, and the cultural belief of which most of the villagers retain today. North Malekula Trail tour is a combination of both Dog's Head Walk and Big Nambas trek on a 3 and a half day trekking and a day at Willack village of relaxing to unwind and experience the real island life of the Vanuatu people. This package will give you alot of glimpse to how and what Matters in Vanuatu that makes Vanuatu the happiest Country. You will be sorry to leave yet have a good reason to come back to Malekula.

Description:
Day1:Norsup Airport/Atchin – by 4x4 (1 hour approx), then Atchin to Kalele Village by foot (4-5 hours walk approx). You will be picked up from airport or your accommodation, and driven up to the North East Coast to Atchin where you meet your personal guide and porters. Your two day adventure starts with an easy walk following a truck track through coconut and cocoa plantations then a single track through local gardens and a bamboo forest. After a traditional lunch at Botco with the villagers, you'll walk for about one hour up and down under the rain-forest canopy with glimpses of the surrounding mountains. Finally, crossing a river, and short steep climb you will then arrive at Kalele village - where you will stay for the night, sleeping in a small hut-house made with local materials. Sheets are provided and you will be able to bucket shower! You will also have an opportunity to taste kava with John the village Chief alongside the river under the clear night sky; a unique and magical experience! Day 2: Kalele – Willack (7-8 hours walk approx) The second day starts with long walk up and down on a single track in beautiful highland jungle. Highlights are: river crossings with deep pools to swim, giant nabanga (banyan) trees, traditional villages, and ample opportunities to interact with the locals doing their daily tasks. You will continue until reaching Malua Bay and the truck will pick you up around 4 pm to Willack Sunset Lodge on the West Coast - conclude your adventure with a relaxing swim in the ocean or just relax on the long black sandy beach watching the stunning sunset. Local meal served at by you host in your lodge Day 3:
A day to wind down after the trek with the village experience. After breakfast you will be guided to visit the local Primary School, then visit the garden. Collect foods and vegetables with your hosts and then bring them back to the village, have lunch and prepare the evening dinner with what you brought. You can then go snorkeling in the pristine clear water or just enjoy the scenic sunset, mingle with the villagers while waiting on your dinner to be cooked. Spend the night at Willack Sunset Lodge. Day 4: You will be picked up around 7:00am for about 30 minutes to Tenmaru where you will meet your tour guide Max and start the Big Nambas Trek. The full-day trek starts at Tenmaru (altitute 368m) where you will walk through the bushes alongside local gardens, beef farm, through the bush on a single trail beside the river with the water cress at the edges until you arrive at Pikayer (altitude 469m) where you will have lunch with the school teachers and students. Spend the some time with the teachers while waiting on your transfer to pick you up and take you back to Lakatoro or Nosup. |
